DECLARATIONAdopted at the First East Asian Women's Forum in Enoshima, Japan
Octoer 22nd, 1994
"To create the future fo East Asia through women's empowerment" - was the pledge of 600 East Asian women who gathered for the First East Asian Women's Forum held at Enoshima, Japan from October 20th to 22nd, 1994. Although separated by differences in political and economic systems, we gathered to forge strong bonds of sisterhood and to raise our voices.It is said taht the 21st Century will be the century of Asisa, Japan has become a global economic power; the NIES (Newly Industrialized Economies) -- Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong -- have achieved outstanding economic development; China and Macao have accelerating economic growth; and Mongolia is moving towards a market economy. The economic energy of East Asia is having an impact on the lives of the people of the world through the filling of the world market with the wealth and abundance of its products. The emergence of Asia is capturing great interest all over the world.
