Governments should be encouraged to increase the number of female policeofficers with special training to deal with women subjected to violence. 5. Governments should develop and provide crisis centers with emergency financial and accomodation assistance. 6. Extensive educational campaigns should be launched to educate people about rape and sexual harassment. National broadcasting organizations, especially, should air educational programs to help eliminate sexual harrassment and rape. 7. Government should take appropriate action to eliminate pornography and prostitution. Vocational Training and Development 1. Consciousness-raising activitiies should be carried out in innovative ways, through media, to eliminate gender discrimination and gender stereo-typing. 2. Women's recruitment into technical, scientific and ohter non-traditionalfields should be activeit promoted. 3. Women should be encouraged to engage in non-traditional vocations and toattend non-traditional vocational training programs. Women and Religion 1. All forms of human rights violations made in the name of religion should be condemned. 2. Women should bee provided access to leadership positions in religous institutions. Environment and Ecology 1. Women should be recognizeddactive participants in national ecology systems management and in hte control of environmental degradation. Industrial diseases should be thoroughly investigated and supervision, treatment and compensation should be expanded. 9. Education should be gender-equal and expanded. POLITICAL EMPOWERMENT 1. Systematic and intensive training of political candidates, campaign workers, media experts and others for successful political organization andcampaigns should be undertaken. 2. National and international networks on women and politics should be formed to seek ways to improve the social and political status of women. 3. New educational programs to enhance equal rights must be sought also with the reevaluation of school curricula, the attitudes of teachers and mass-media. 4. Reservations concerning the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women should be removed. 5. Neither sex should be allowed to exeed a 60% share of political representation. In the short term, women should be given a 20% share of elected and appointed political positions.
